With great sadness we report the passing of Diane Gueck, founder of Cheveaux Training Stables. For many years, Diane has been an inspiration to those around her, providing life lessons for many generations of young people. Young girls in particular were drawn to the stables, and Diane would put them to work earning their riding lessons. She provided the transportation, boarding, riding clothing, and the opportunity to ride a horse in the show ring to anyone that was willing to work hard and earn their way. She demanded perfection from her barn girls and in return they developed self esteem, confidence, and poise. She taught them to value their worth as women, to be strong and graceful, and she provided a stable environment for young people to learn and grow in. Some of them have gone on to become horse trainers themselves, others have gone on to be house wives, and still others are tackling the business world. She was the ultimate teacher and she has inspired generations of her students to work hard, be confident, and to succeed.
Diane led an active and full life, and earned many accolades over the years. In February of 2008, Trainer Diane Gueck was one of 13 people to be inducted into the Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration's Hall of Fame. She was presented with her award at a 500 strong banquet in Calsonic Arena in Tennessee. Her son and daughter, Stephen and Sharon, as well as her brother Jim and his wife Liz, joined her at the ceremony. The Lifetime Instructors Achievement Award was also presented to her at the Tennessee Walking Horse Breeders'Association Annual Banquet.
While we mourn the loss of one of the show ring's greatest, we know that Diane's legacy will continue in the hearts and minds of her children, her family, her friends, and her many students; many of which have gone on to become horse trainers themselves. For now, Cheveaux Training Stables will continue under the direction of Diane's daughter, Sharon Gueck-DeFord. Sharon has over 30 years of experience in training, showing, and instructing and she rode many of Cheveaux's horses to their World Championship and International titles. She also specializes in halter and model training, as well as show ring presentation and equitation instruction. Diane's son, Stephen will continue to operate the video business.
